Under The Marble Arch
“Seeing what isn’t there is half the job of being on the Left. The other half is changing what isn’t there through costly, intrusive, and ill-conceived initiatives (save 10 percent for keeping Charlie Rangel out of trouble).” -Abe Greenberg, October 9, 2009
Philosopher's Corner

"With their memories of the sixties, when to be young was very heaven, they still believe that an oppositional stance in pursuit of perfection is virtuous in itself—indeed, is the prime or sole content of virtue. And it is this belief that renders them interesting to Hollander, for it makes genuine moral reflection about the nature of various governments and policies impossible. It transforms merely personal discontents into matters of supposedly great general importance."

-Theodore Dalrymple on Paul Hollander: The Only Superpower: Reflections on Strength, Weakness, and Anti-Americanism

Breaking News...uh, Rumors

alito.jpgOK, this time Quid will get a one up on ALL of the Liberal blogs:  Samuel Alito is GAY!  Yeah, he's married: what does that prove?  And the two kids?  Gay guys can father children with the women they marry.  In fact that would be the reason to marry a woman.  Ask EuGene Robinson.  But he's not divorced, you say?  That's the best part:  he's a really, really self-loathing, repressed homosexual.  That would also account for his conservatism and his slavish attachment to principle.

I just have one more thing to say: his hair isn't great, guys.  I'm worried.  Could be another David Souter.

And one more thing: I bet he belongs to the Federalist Society, or at least knows what it is.

Hey Quid, what makes you so sure he's gay?

Dammit, your Prez seems to have no luck with his appointees. From over here, it all seems a bit weird. I understand Mrs. Miers was dismissed because the grand majority of the GOP found her not conservative enough - although personally I think she have stood a serious chance to survice the confidence vote if she had been, uh, prettier. OK, forget it. Sexist remark.

And now just this evening I hear about Bush presenting this fella Alito (never, NEVER heard of him) and he's drawing vicious flak already from the libs.

Gay or not, dunno. Don't care either. But you are certainly right about his hair. It just, well, uh, it sucks.

OK, Michael, I'm outing you, although you do a very impressive redneck. And the reason you've never heard of him is that while he was making a living busting the Tony Sopranos of the world, or at least the ones in New Jersey, you were in Belgium leading a very lonely but noble life as an endangered species, ie, a European Conservative.

C'mon lady! Since I discovered LVB's blog, I know that there are many more persons like me.

Well, uh, their language may be a bit more polished, but basically they are on my side of the fence.

As for not knowing Alito with the Permanent Bad Hair (ha ha, do you get it???), I stand corrected. Of course. Still, I do think quite a lot of people in the States never before heard of him.

Am too lazy to go up to your last post's comments window. What is Schroeder ON? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!! Good one. Damn trickster! Never suspected he wasn't that tall after all!

Polish? I thought it was Flemish.

No, Herr Schroeder's definitely vertically challenged. Haven't you heard the joke about someone asking where he was from: "Von München?" "Nein, von Munchkin."

As for people in the US not having heard of Alito, if you ask 100 people on the street in these United States to name even 3 Supreme Court Justices, you wouldn't get 20 correct answers, so I can't say I disagree with you there. This being a full service blog, I moved your comment to where it belongs, you slothful Fleming.

Hmmm...Straight Lib with gaydar..Is that standard equipment or did you pay extra for the sport accessory package?

And no ear for parody. Sigh.

Come on. Anybody can watch those hearings and tell that Alito is a repressed homosexual. I picked it up the first time he opened his mouth.
