I never read Wonkette. I was on a little trackback trail from Paul Belein's post in the Brussels Journal (see above) which led me to Scoopstories Blog (going to be an elementary school teacher, was a journalist: we despair) to Gawker (highly produced insider, connected stuff; looks and feels alot like Wonkette) to Wonkette, whose world has gone topsy-turvy since she learned that Maureen Dowd gets plenty of dates. Who'd a thunk it, right? This is one area where I must say the Wonkster and I see eye-to-eye (this and John Kerry, aka "Treebeard" not possibly ever having an affair with an intern.)
Anyway, she's in a dither, which is good for her readers because she has put up the results to a very funny poll that asks readers to complete this sentence: "Maureen Dowd Gets Laid Because..."
In the interest of logic and healthy skepticism, I would like to mention that (a) we only have MoDo's word for it that she gets plenty of dates; no man has come forward to corroborate this outlandish claim; (b) I know it's either terribly naive of me or terribly legalistic, but she doesn't say she gets laid, she says she gets dates; and (c) if you are a liberal woman just jam-packed with superior intelligence and deep disdain for the Y chromosome, you have an endless supply(a few million, anyway) of self-loathing hetero men (all Democrats) who are shallow enough to buy into your bu**sh*t for at least a few hours. OK, minutes. And if you live in New York, your pool of potential "dates" expands geometrically to include the shallow leftist transgendereds, bisexuals, lesbians, and those homosexuals who think you're a female impersonator, which would be most of the gay guys in New York.
Oh yeah, all of this started because Ms. Dowd has a new book out called, "Are Men Necessary?" Better reading is this piece from the Weekly Standard, The Immutable Laws of Maureen. Please read it: it took me an inordinate amount of time to Google it because I had read it ages ago and never bookmarked it. I would be a less tortured writer if my memory were poorer or my filing skills were better.
