Under The Marble Arch
“Seeing what isn’t there is half the job of being on the Left. The other half is changing what isn’t there through costly, intrusive, and ill-conceived initiatives (save 10 percent for keeping Charlie Rangel out of trouble).” -Abe Greenberg, October 9, 2009
Philosopher's Corner

"With their memories of the sixties, when to be young was very heaven, they still believe that an oppositional stance in pursuit of perfection is virtuous in itself—indeed, is the prime or sole content of virtue. And it is this belief that renders them interesting to Hollander, for it makes genuine moral reflection about the nature of various governments and policies impossible. It transforms merely personal discontents into matters of supposedly great general importance."

-Theodore Dalrymple on Paul Hollander: The Only Superpower: Reflections on Strength, Weakness, and Anti-Americanism

Green Germans Vie for Conspiracy Title

From David's Medienkritik:

Antje Vollmer, Germany's top female parliamentarian and Green Party member has an interesting theory about the American Catholic Church's pedophilia scandal: it  was ginned up by the Bush administration (read: Halliburton, Karl Rove, et al) to punish the pope for not going along with the Iraq  War.  We must hand it to DM, this is a serious contender for the KOOK Hall of Fame.

On our side of the Atlantic:

John Kerry is not to be outdone.  James "Best of the Web" Taranto tells us that Mr. Kerry believes that many voters were disenfranchised by Republican dirty tricks, being told that Democrats were to vote on Wednesday, Republicans on Tuesday.  Where did he get that idea? From The Onion, which we know to be a satirical newspaper.

This is the stupidity double jeopardy: that you can be duped by a satirical piece into believing that the people who are your base are dumb enough to fall for a trick that is as old as the hills.  Evidently those voter registration drives in the homes for the mentally challenged have turned up a couple of candidates as well.

The Antje Vollmer story is hard to believe, but the photo looks real.

Stories like this are knocking you off your feet. In the early medieval times, people in western Europe were prayin: from the Vikings, save us My Lord.

Now we ought to pray: from socialists and watermelons, save us My Lord.

Unbelievable.
