Under The Marble Arch
“Seeing what isn’t there is half the job of being on the Left. The other half is changing what isn’t there through costly, intrusive, and ill-conceived initiatives (save 10 percent for keeping Charlie Rangel out of trouble).” -Abe Greenberg, October 9, 2009
Philosopher's Corner

"With their memories of the sixties, when to be young was very heaven, they still believe that an oppositional stance in pursuit of perfection is virtuous in itself—indeed, is the prime or sole content of virtue. And it is this belief that renders them interesting to Hollander, for it makes genuine moral reflection about the nature of various governments and policies impossible. It transforms merely personal discontents into matters of supposedly great general importance."

-Theodore Dalrymple on Paul Hollander: The Only Superpower: Reflections on Strength, Weakness, and Anti-Americanism

Voting for Judges

The one universal trait of Leftism is blatant, unabashed, shameless hypocrisy.  It isn't hypocrisy the way that ordinary people experience, with a twinge of guilt and self-justification.  It is a deep seated character trait that allows for any expedient , self-serving position to be adopted at the drop of a hat, with utter conviction.  This freedom to re-write rules and history to suit has come to full flower during the filibuster debate.  It allows Juan Williams to really really really support the "senate rules" that halt the confirmations of conservative judges but hate the same time-honored "senate rules" that blocked civil rights legislation for decades, just to give one tiny example.

We won't even go into the Cirque du Soleil-worthy contortions of our elected officials.  If you want an excellent example of this, go to a very timely item on John Cornyn's website here.
