We got emails about this a couple of days ago and suddenly find
ourselves in that oh-so-familiar spot: way behind the curve.
This would be with respect to the breast-feeding brouhaha steaming up The View because of some insensitive and frankly BIZARRE
remarks made by the hosts, especially Barbara Walters.
Evidently, she and her hairdresser, both flying first class, were made
"uncomfortable" by the woman seated next to Bawbwa who had the nerve to
breastfeed her child in front of God and everyone. We totally
sympathize: just about anybody can fly in first class these days; don't
they have steerage class for the hoi poloi? [Note to Babs:
breastfeeding mothers have been advised to carry their breast milk in
their breasts to get through airport security with minimum hassle]
What we haven't seen except on Libertas
is Rosie O'Donnell's reaction, in response to the "Nurse-In" protests
staged to respond to Walters. Read the whole sordid tale here. A little taste, so to speak:
“Kelly [Rosie’s partner] only nursed for like about a month,” said Rosie at the time, “and then I was very angry, because as the other mommy…with the other babies nobody nursed because they were adopted. But with this baby it was like she was the only one getting to bond. So I was like the nursing is over! I cut her off. I’m like, you’ve had your limit honey. No more!”
One of Rosie’s fellow panel members interjected at this point, saying “But you know that’s an interesting conversation because in a certain way you’re doing a disservice to the baby aren’t you when you act like that?”
“No, because I got to bond and cuddle,” said Rosie.Me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me.

For great commentary on this, we recommend A. M. Siriano.
Warning to lonesome gals: this conservative not-a-girlie-man poet is
taken (by the woman who breastfeeds his children). Huh... a
man married to a woman, having children together, the mother feeding them from
her breast. Who'd have thought the world would come to this?
