“Seeing what isn’t there is half the job of being on the Left. The other half is changing what isn’t there through costly, intrusive, and ill-conceived initiatives (save 10 percent for keeping Charlie Rangel out of trouble).” -Abe Greenberg, October 9, 2009
Philosopher's Corner

"With their memories of the sixties, when to be young was very heaven, they still believe that an oppositional stance in pursuit of perfection is virtuous in itself—indeed, is the prime or sole content of virtue. And it is this belief that renders them interesting to Hollander, for it makes genuine moral reflection about the nature of various governments and policies impossible. It transforms merely personal discontents into matters of supposedly great general importance."

The "Plamegate" Ecstasy

Went to a technorati search of "Rove Plame" to see what's happening in the blogosphere on the Valerie Plame outing non-crime.  Cry "Treason!" Quid was listed but we were down at number 98 or so because of all of the blogs that are hot for this story.  This would be a good time to be a romance novelist or a porn movie reviewer because then my vocabulary would be up to snuff. As it is, the vast preponderance of the writhing and moaning is on the liberal blogs.  They are very excited.    If this venture into the bowels of liberal dementia were a movie, it would be Woody Allen's "Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex (but were afraid to ask)" and I would be  one of the characters being chased down by the giant milk-squirting breast, except it isn't a breast and it isn't milk.  They are in the throes of what can only be described as the world's biggest foreplay frenzy (now I'm going to get kicked off Homespun Bloggers for sure). And what I said about Lawrence O'Donnell's comeback...well, so to speak, as it were.  Some examples of what is being said about Dr. Evil:

  • Plame leak: It’s Rove!
  • Ode to Karl Rove: Karl Rove pours out dung from his pail...
  • "The Architecht,[sic]" Karl Rove,
  • What we've all known all along
  • Childf*****g Evil, Karl "turdblossom" Rove...the Revolutionary War had Benedict Arnold, our generation has Karl Rove. what a f****n traitor! [how appropriate, the reference to the Revolutionary War on the eve of the Fourth of July]
  • "most insidious of traitors"
  • From the start it was clear Rove was the source of the leak that lead to the outing of Valerie Plame.
  •  Karl Rove and the Douchebag [sic] of Liberty play the Plame Game  [this is from a blog called Liberal With a Big Vocabulary, which certainly sets him apart from the pack]
  • Rove's big fat mouth finally getting his a** into trouble?
Yawn.  It's pretty repetitive.  I was a bit surprised that the word "treason" is in a liberal's vocabulary.  In order to be a traitor in the classical sense, you have to betray the trust of an entity (person, country)  that has a right to expect your loyalty.  If Karl Rove deliberately leaked the identity of a covert operative (thereby  treading Joe Wilson's well-worn path),  I STILL have a hard time making the treason mark, mainly because the Leftists have been so effective since the Vietnam War at putting all kinds of betrayal in the "conscientious objector" basket.   Did he meet privately with the representatives of a country we are at war with while still in uniform (or even not in uniform)? Did he lie to Congress about war crimes committed by Americans? Did he visit an enemy country and pose on the artillery that was killing our soldiers?  See, when liberals prevented the treason tag from being hung on John Kerry and Jane Fonda, they made it very difficult to hang it on anyone else, no matter how deserving.

And, anyway, this whole loyalty to country thing, you know, patriotism, is just sooo passé .  Too many flags.  Icky poo.

Somewhere in the dusty corners is the recollection of a massive betrayal of field agents by a member of Congress...

Note to self: do not bother to spell check quotes from liberal blogs.  It crashes the application.

It's good to keep tabs on this, because I have a feeling they will be eating much crow soon.
