A Real West Wing?
Friday, April 13, 2007 at 08:05PM As a presidential candidate, Fred Thompson doesn't thrill me for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with his announcement this week that he has a cancer that is in remission. I have a feeling, however, that the main reason I find him too much of a light weight is the same reason that he may be the most electable Republican candidate: he is a famous actor with a current show. And the show, thank God, isn't a cheesy sitcom, but one of the most respected and best written dramas ever. Better still, he plays a conservative elected official who is throwing criminals into jail.
So my fantasy is to have Martin Sheen decide that he's going for the Democrat nomination. Then the majority of the voters will elect Senator Thompson because the other candidate has a degenerative disease and a bunch of aides who talk too fast and a father who is certifiably crazy.*
