Under The Marble Arch
“Seeing what isn’t there is half the job of being on the Left. The other half is changing what isn’t there through costly, intrusive, and ill-conceived initiatives (save 10 percent for keeping Charlie Rangel out of trouble).” -Abe Greenberg, October 9, 2009
Philosopher's Corner

"With their memories of the sixties, when to be young was very heaven, they still believe that an oppositional stance in pursuit of perfection is virtuous in itself—indeed, is the prime or sole content of virtue. And it is this belief that renders them interesting to Hollander, for it makes genuine moral reflection about the nature of various governments and policies impossible. It transforms merely personal discontents into matters of supposedly great general importance."

-Theodore Dalrymple on Paul Hollander: The Only Superpower: Reflections on Strength, Weakness, and Anti-Americanism

Keep the Change Item #1

Infanticide.

I list this because I'm still reeling from the idea that anyone, ANYONE, could justify denying medical care to any living infant.

I weep when I think of the millions who would say "Yes, infanticide is OK" and cast their votes for Obama.  For me, it's the watershed, non-partisan issue.  Am I a one issue candidate? No.  Could I support a "pro-choice" candidate for President?  Yes, given a compelling array of other outstanding qualities (for example, excellent on national defense).  But, I could not support a candidate that was pro-late term abortion, which are never medically necessary for the mother's health.  But Barack Obama goes even further, condoning at a stroke the killing of the baby and extreme parental neglect.

This extreme position indicates something very profound about his own character, and his deeply held beliefs.  He voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act three times, including one time when the "neutrality clause" was inserted to ensure that a woman's right to an abortion was protected.

This is change I don't believe in.
