"So the point that I was making at the time was that the political
dynamic was the driving force between that sectarian violence. And we
could try to keep a lid on it, but if these underlining dynamic
continued to bubble up and explode the way they were, then we would be
in a difficult situation. I am glad that in fact those political
dynamic shifted at the same time that our troops did outstanding work."
Barack Obama, on why he was wrong about the surge; translators working feverishly to make this quote intelligible

Friday, April 4, 2008 at 09:09AM These days, even the tiniest net can catch a Democrat Big Fish looking for love:
TROY -- Radio executive Tom Athans, husband of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, expressed remorse Wednesday after being caught in February by a Troy police sting aimed at catching prostitutes.
(....)
Athans, in a statement, said: "No words can fully express how sorry I am. At the time this incident occurred, I took responsibility for my actions and fully cooperated with law enforcement. My family and I are dealing with this matter in a personal and private way."
We're forming a support group with Elliot Spitzer's family. Our families are grieving and Elliot and I are trading stories.
Athans, the co-founder and former CEO of the liberal-progressive Democracy Radio, was stopped Feb. 26 by undercover officers investigating a possible prostitution ring in a room at the Residence Inn near Big Beaver and Interstate 75. Athans paid a 20-year-old prostitute $150 for sex in the Troy hotel but was not arrested, according to police reports obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by The Detroit News.
OK, the Residence in is in Troy: it's near Big Beaver. The reporter has a sense of humor, or the pro does.
I commend this Democrat for fiscal responsibility, in sharp contrast to Emperor Spitzer.
...Athans, 46, was executive vice president of Air America, which filed for bankruptcy in 2006. In early 2006, Athans left Air America Radio, which emerged from bankruptcy in 2007. Athans now heads TalkUSA Radio, based in Washington, D.C.
Wow. The folks at Air America seemed just so imbued with moral rectitude, this is a real shock.
....Athans told police he stopped at the hotel to see a female friend he met online at Craig's List, according to the report. After calling her on his cell phone, he was given a room number and met a woman at the door, the report said.
Once inside he placed $150 on a countertop. The woman collected the money and performed a sex act on him, Athans told police in the report.
"I contacted (Kerry, Terry or Kara) on Craigslist," the report said. "I visited her at the Residence Inn. She performed oral sex for $150." Click on Detroit is a little less prudish than the Detroit News.
Ho hum, so to speak.
