I wonder how many millions of people think Mitt Romney would be doing a better job as president than Barack Obama? It's more than a little ironic that BO took to a late night talk show and compared his job to that of an American Idol contestant. In fact, he capitalized on the Idolization of American culture: he ran as the first American Idol President. For America, it was a pure popularity contest. The voting public allowed dreamy emotionalism to dictate their choice, and this is a quality president is still willing to encourage and exploit. The gravity of the economic crisis wasn't apparent, and certainly hadn't penetrated the voter psyche until it was too late to have a candidate who has an outstanding record in turning around troubled enterprises. But, if John McCain had been elected, chances are better than even that Mitt Romney would have been Treasury Secretary. I can't think of a greater contrast of competence, authority, and experience than Timmy Geithner and Mitt Romney.
