Under The Marble Arch
“Seeing what isn’t there is half the job of being on the Left. The other half is changing what isn’t there through costly, intrusive, and ill-conceived initiatives (save 10 percent for keeping Charlie Rangel out of trouble).” -Abe Greenberg, October 9, 2009
Philosopher's Corner

"With their memories of the sixties, when to be young was very heaven, they still believe that an oppositional stance in pursuit of perfection is virtuous in itself—indeed, is the prime or sole content of virtue. And it is this belief that renders them interesting to Hollander, for it makes genuine moral reflection about the nature of various governments and policies impossible. It transforms merely personal discontents into matters of supposedly great general importance."

-Theodore Dalrymple on Paul Hollander: The Only Superpower: Reflections on Strength, Weakness, and Anti-Americanism

The Tea Party in WDC

I was tweeting this morning and caught a link to the traffic cameras at 14th St. and E: think the Iranian protests.  There were tens of thousands of people.  Twitter is down now because of overcapacity.  The current cams show the crowd breaking up and traffic resuming at 3rd and Constitution.  A friend of mine who went just because she was so angry about Wednesday night’s speech, called me from the west side of the Capitol, where she was guiding a brother and sister pair from Greenbay, Wisconsin [not her sibs- total strangers, but she assured me, "They're very nice."]

This is very, very big.  I think, though that Obama will try to get the “plan”-whatever it is- passed by running over Republicans and these people.

Weezer- you go, girl!

Republican candidate for Texas Attorney General, Ted Cruz ( whom may God save!) predicts that if we can somehow stall them until this November, and prevent final passage of cap and tax and Health Care Seizure, nothing more will happen. He says that the elections in Virginia and New Jersey will very likely go Republican, and that will put enough fear of the people, if not necessarily of God, into the Congress, that Obama will be a de facto lame duck. From h is mouth to God's ear!

I'm fortunate enough to live around Washington DC, and so headed uptown today to the Tea Party! It was a fantastic time and a message was definitely sent. Whether it adds up to anything depends on whether people follow up by becoming politically active.

What's interesting is that the event today was quite family friendly. Sure, there were a few signs that went too far, but there leftist rallies and protests are filled with vulgar signs spouting foul words and sexual innuendos.

Tom -- concur -- atmosphere very civil, friendly. Voices of adults with real issues.
My parting words to my companions from Green Bay, WI: "When you go back, go forth."
BTW, Tom, were you the guy with the sign?
[sorry, couldn't resist.]
