Yeah, we certainly want to avoid looking "out of touch."  At first I didn't realize that this was from 1994 and was pretty weirded out by the bad die job– whoops!  But I quickly realized that he wouldn't be talking about an "alienated middle class" these days.  The term of art, 18 years on, is "bitterclingers."
