"I slept and dreamt that life was Joy.
I woke and saw that life was Duty.
I acted, and behold, Duty was Joy."
Rabindranath Tagore

"The skepticism about human rationality that science inspires should not be taken as support for authoritarianism or paternalism… On the contrary, it should render questionable all claims to wise and disinterested leadership, including those of America’s own altruistic progressive technocrats who propose policies to “nudge” the unenlightened masses into doing the right thing. It makes more sense to think of our leaders and intellectuals as half-crazed hooting howler monkeys — just like the rest of us."
Michael Lind, Salon, August 23,2011
“Seeing what isn’t there is half the job of being on the Left. The other half is changing what isn’t there through costly, intrusive, and ill-conceived initiatives (save 10 percent for keeping Charlie Rangel out of trouble).” -Abe Greenberg, October 9, 2009
“To date, what non-Obama voters see, and fear, is a candidate content to coast to the nomination and then conduct a blandly conservative campaign. They want a more substantive choice than that. They want to have it out over the worth or danger of Barack Obama’s ideas. They want the chance to ratify Washington’s enormous long-term claims on the country’s wealth, or decisively reject them." – Daniel Henninger, WSJ, July 21, 2011

Let He Who Has Not Sinned…

…skip this post.

I've been on the wagon, trying to clean up my act, so to speak, and not engaging in tongue-wagging about celebrities and politicians and whomever with respect to their fallen lives.  Look, Ma! No posts about Lindsey Lohan!**  But there are some demonic forces so powerful that they simply overwhelm the meager moral defenses of your humble blogger.

Case in point: This picture.

This is Rielle Hunter telling some person on 20/20 (I think that's a TV show) that Elizabeth Edwards was "crazy" and that she attacked John Edwards physically when she found out about Rielle.  I know, it's a confusing non-sequitor.  Elizabeth may have been crazy, but attacking John Edwards physically seems more a sign of mental health than of craziness, something you really don't need a specific reason for (in Texas, a legitimate homicide defense is "He needed killing."  'Johnny' doesn't need killing but regular beatings would be therapeutic for all concerned).  Staying married to him: crazy.  Becoming his mistress when he tells you he has 3 other women on a string across this great land of ours: crazy.  Staying his mistress when you find out that he totally lied to you about all the women he was schtupping and breaking up with just to be with you: crazy.

Allowing your 47-year-old legs and your bottle-blondness to be immortalized on the web: crazy.

** I hate it that people are making money off her self-destruction.  She's just a couple of years older than my kids.

My sympathy is reserved for the child of that . . . well, 'union' is the politest thing I can come up with.

Edwards (John) and Hunter can both stew in the toxic mess they've concocted.
