He Spake, and It Was Done
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 06:09AM The Senator's goal was to be tough and smart, and so when the action happened on Thursday, he immediately called for a ceasefire, condemned the unwarranted use of force by Russia. It was a bad crisis for the world. It required tough words, but also a smart approach to call on the international community to step in -- and I'm very, very happy that the senator's request for a ceasefire has been complied with. -Tim Kaine, former Governer of Virginia, and Vice Messiah short-lister, on Fox & Friends, Tuesday, August 12.
Well, I am impressed that THE Global Citizen Numero Uno (BO- that's Spanish) has such a hold on Vlad the Impaler that he halted the advance of two brigades of tanks, a fleet of ships and prevented the bifurcation of a free democracy. Oops, not quite. This is what The One said, on Friday,
"I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict. Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war. Georgia's territorial integrity must be respected. All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis." (h/t Gateway Pundit, who also supplied the bolding.)
Tim Kaine has very, very low standards for tough and smart, as you might expect from a lap dog. From the über-neutral "outbreak of violence" (I don't think I'd call hundreds of tanks rolling across an international border an outbreak of violence- I'd call it an "invasion") to the less-than-"smart" call on the UN Security Council to do something when (a) Security Council resolutions are worthless, and untimely, and (b) the aggressor in this action is a member with veto power, I'd say that this statement doesn't meet the tough/smart test. Really, it's just boiler-plate tap dancing while the research department tries to figure out how Russia got all those tanks across the border from Alabama. Oh, and never mind that the Russians hadn't actually stopped bombing/invading/pillaging Georgia when Timmy was breathlessly recounting the miracle of The Word .
Aside: I'm was very impressed with Tim Kaine's diction when I heard this on F & F, considering what he must have had in his mouth at the time (it was audio feed only because the video couldn't be aired during family-friendly hours was broken). End aside.
As it happens, he (Obama) called Condi Rice on Saturday and decided to take the Bush Administration's talking points. I think this doesn't bode well for the Federal Budget if Obama is elected President. He's paying all those salaries when he could just be using his "anytime" minutes to formulate his foreign policy.
